Monday Morning First Reference Phone Call
Me: Marriott library fine arts, how can I help you?
Patron: is this the fine arts, you know fine arts place?
Me: well this is the fine arts division of the library
Patron: ok well I need to get in touch with the dean of fine arts
Me: give me a moment and I can find that in the directory for you
Patron: he's a kind of a black guy right?
Me: I believe so
Patron: or I guess he could be kind of a white guy…I think he has a hyphenated name
Me: I have a number for the dean’s office, will that work?
Patron: umm…yes
Me: Ok that number is 801.581.3887…and his name is Raymond Tymas-Jones
Patron: Oh, Raymond Thomas-Jones
Me: Tymas- T-y-m-a-s
Patron: oh Tymas, thank you mam.
A few seconds later the desk phone rings again, we have caller ID and I see that it is the same number, I reach for the phone but it only rings once.
